Windsurfing in Tarifa has been on my bucket list for ages. Somehow I haven’t been there before and it’s “only” 2400 km from where I live.
I’ve been to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Leucate, Barbados, Crete, and Rhodos but never actually made it to Tarifa.
But that’s finally going to change and I couldn’t be more stoked about it.
The weather is looking great and the wind predictions are promising as well.
Before taking a flight down there I’ll hope to first squeeze in some sessions at home before, and it’s looking like that’s going to happen as well.
But after that, in a few days, the warm sandy beaches of Tarifa are waiting for me.
What I Know About Tarifa…
Tarifa is known as one of the best windsurfing places in Europe, and for a reason!
The place is known for the predictable Levante and Poniente winds.
In summer the water is mostly flat but in winter it has some great waves rolling in as well, especially the beach of Bolonia has some great European waveriding to offer.
The place is packed with windsurfing shops and has a lot of rental shops as well, so no need to bring your own gear and that’s exactly what I,m planning to do.
There are also a lot of custom board and custom sail factories.
Big windsurfing brands like Loftsails and Gunsails develop and test their sails there but also the Maui Fin Company tests a lot with their fins there as well.
Furthermore do most windsurfing pro’s test and train there during the year.
